Master Scholarship at The University of Konstanz in Germany
The Department of Computer and Information Science invites applicants for a Research Position (Salary Scale 13 TV-L/50%, 1000-1100 Euro per month)
The position is available until the end of 2009 (with the potential for further extension) for a highly motivated PhD student or a person with a master’s degree (or German “Diplom”) in Computer and Information Science, Electronic Engineering or a similar master’s degree.
The Research Position is funded by the Zukunftskolleg. The Zukunftskolleg is a central scientific institution of the University of Konstanz for the promotion of young scientists in the natural sciences, humanities, and social sciences, and is an integral component of the institutional strategy “Modell Konstanz - Towards a culture of creativity”. The Zukunftskolleg is a unique, interdisciplinary community that gives young scientists the opportunity to pursue independent research and collaborate with scientists from other disciplines.
The successful candidate will work with Dr. Shujun Li, Fellow of the Zukunftskolleg on the research project “Secure Multimedia Computing” at Prof. Dr. Dietmar Saupe’s group on Multimedia Signal Processing.
The main activities will include: development of key components of a benchmark system for the purpose of multimedia encryption, research work on quality measurement of partially encrypted images, videos and performance evaluation of multimedia encryption systems as a whole and the maintenance of the website of the research project.
Excellent programming skill in C/C++ and good knowledge about multimedia coding are essential qualifications. Previous experience on some multimedia coding standards such as MPEG, H.26x or JPEG/JPEG2000 standards is required. Knowledge about applied cryptography and programming experience on Web Applications (HTML/Javascript, ASP/PHP/JSP/Perl, XML) are advantageous. The working language will be English, so a good command of both oral and written English is a must.
